Norman Kember

This afternoon I had a chance to sit in on our regular Wednesday seminar at IBTS and hear Dr. Norman Kember , a Brit, speak about his experience of being held captive in Iraq almost 18 months ago as a kidnap victim with two Canadians, Harmeet Singh Sooden, Jim Loney and an American, Tom Fox (who tragically was executed by the captors). Normal who was 74 years old at the time was on a two week exposure trip with Christian Peacekeeping Teams and was suddenly captured at gun point and held captive for almost 4 months. He shared how his unwavering feelings as a peace activist for many decades, his deep faith and conviction as a follower of Christ's teachings on peace and the support of his fellow captives, helped him while away the hours in song and worship and prayer while being handcuffed together day and night for that whole time. It was a riviting tale and the most powerful part for me was remembering our prayers for him in chapel services each day and for our hope for his release. Its always rewarding to see living breathing answers to our prayers!
